Driftwise Travel is a small independent research studio for travellers choosing where to stay and how to spend their days. Our free guides cover five destinations in four countries: Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand, Tokyo in Japan, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Singapore.
Start with a neighbourhood, a station or a beach, then compare the journey that your hotel location creates. Our guides bring area comparisons, suggested two-day routes, food ideas and transport checks into one place. English and simplified Chinese pages are available; their coverage may differ where an existing guide includes older, dated hotel evidence.
Free to read, with optional support
All travel guides are free to read without an account, subscription or payment. If the information helps you plan, you can choose to support the work voluntarily when the tipping option is available. A tip supports research and maintenance; it does not unlock extra content or buy a travel booking. No hotel or restaurant pays for placement.
Scenic artwork downloads remain separate paid products with their own licences. Tips do not include an artwork licence. Existing guide accounts and purchase records remain available, while the guides themselves are now open to everyone.
What the research covers
These guides use public-source desk research and original editorial judgment. They are not personal hotel stays, on-site inspections, live booking or price services, safety guarantees, or accessibility audits. Suggested routes are starting points to adapt to your dates, interests and pace.
How a recommendation is built
- Fit: identify the traveller, daily plans and location problem first.
- Friction: check rail, river, traffic, hills, heat, noise, transfer time and the real first or last kilometre.
- Evidence: link factual destination and transport information to its source. Where an existing guide includes a public score, keep its platform, scale, review count and original checked date.
- Trade-off: publish a reason to pause beside every reason to choose.
Sources and public reviews
Transport, tourism and timetable claims link to relevant official operators or authorities. The new area guides focus on location choices and do not invent hotel ratings, guest reviews or live deals. Existing Bangkok and Phuket hotel and restaurant evidence uses attributed public aggregate scores and recurring review themes. Booking.com and Tripadvisor scales are kept separate. Individual guest wording, hotel photography and third-party editorial copy are not republished.
The source establishes the factual context; our assessment of who an area suits, what to give up and how to pace a day is an editorial interpretation. A source link is not an endorsement of Driftwise by that organisation.
AI assistance and images
AI tools assist with research organisation, drafting, translation and original editorial illustrations. Travel artwork is labelled as AI-created atmosphere and must not be read as a photograph of a named hotel, restaurant or guaranteed current condition. Factual claims remain tied to dated, visible public sources that readers can recheck.
Tools that help you plan
Destination filters work with the places currently covered. Saved destinations stay in your browser; they do not automatically sync with an account or another device. The budget calculator adds prices you enter yourself. It is not a live quote or exchange-rate service, and its displayed formula explains which costs are excluded.
Dates, corrections and changes
The new destination and transport research was checked on 12 September 2026. This date does not refresh the older hotel or restaurant snapshots in existing guides: those keep their own displayed check dates. A page-design update also does not mean every underlying score was checked again.
Scores, review counts, fares, timetables, prices and local conditions change. Confirm the relevant operator or venue information for your travel day. To report an outdated source, factual error or unclear disclosure, email xiaoyingchen0829@163.com with the page and information that needs checking.
